On October 12, 2026, xAI introduced The X Subscription, which it says “brings together Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor, and X Premium in one plan”. It is open to new customers now, and xAI says it will reach “everyone globally” over the next few days. The paid tiers are Plus ($8), Premium ($30), Super ($100) and Ultra ($200) a month, and they share one pool of Grok usage across the Grok apps, the Grok tab on X and Cursor.
The part that rewrites this comparison is in xAI’s FAQ: “The previous plans are no longer available for new sign-ups.” That covers SuperGrok, X Premium+ and the standalone Cursor plans. The fine print: Neither X’s help page nor xAI’s plans page says whether the SuperGrok inside Premium+ has exactly the same allowances as the standalone $30 plan, and neither publishes usage numbers for any plan.
✅ Verdict: On paper, Premium+ is SuperGrok plus X perks. If you hold either plan, nothing changes until you choose to switch.

Is the $30 Premium plan really cheaper than the old plans?
Compared with X Premium+, yes; compared with SuperGrok, it is the same price. An X Premium+ subscriber pays $40 a month today, $10 more than Premium. Someone paying for both SuperGrok ($30) and X Premium+ ($40) pays $70 a month for two bills that Premium now covers in one. xAI also says “each comparable new tier provides more usage-per-dollar than the plan it replaces”, but it publishes usage only as multiples of Plus, so that claim can’t be checked from its pages. Annual prices for the new plans were not on xAI’s pricing page when we checked.

X Premium+ pricing has moved before: X’s own price-update page records a Premium+ price change on February 18, 2025, alongside Grok 3, and on October 4, 2026 its table listed $40 a month in the US. On paper, Premium covers both old plans and adds Cursor. One wording gap is worth knowing: X described Premium+ as “no ads anywhere”, while xAI’s new comparison table lists ad-free scrolling on “most surfaces” for every tier from Premium up. xAI’s launch post adds that “higher tiers” remove ads from the timeline entirely, without saying which.

Under the old plans, Premium+ was SuperGrok with X’s top membership attached. On top of the checkmark and creator programs from the $8 Premium tier, it added no ads anywhere on X, the largest reply prioritization, Radar Search and Articles. The X Subscription moves most of those X features down the ladder. xAI’s comparison table lists the checkmark, Radar Search, Articles, Creator Subscriptions and a reply boost on every paid tier from Plus ($8). Premium ($30) adds ad-free scrolling on most surfaces, a preferred @handle and a higher reply boost.
That also ends the old X Premium ($8) plus SuperGrok ($30) combination for new buyers, since neither plan is sold on its own anymore. Plus at $8 now includes Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build by itself, but not Grok Bot or video generation, and in Cursor it runs Grok models only.

Usage is now counted differently. Every paid X Subscription tier draws from one pool shared by Grok and Cursor; within Grok it covers Chat, Imagine, Voice and Grok Bot. Paid plans include Grok API access, but xAI says API usage is “billed separately at standard model rates” and does not draw from that pool. Premium gets “4x more usage compared to Plus”, Super 15x and Ultra 50x, and xAI says “your allowance refreshes weekly”. If you run out, you can buy top-ups or wait for the refresh. xAI’s pricing page lists “Latest Grok models” among the features Premium adds over Plus. Grok 4.7, which xAI calls its most capable model for coding and knowledge work, is available in Cursor and Grok Build. What xAI still doesn’t publish, for the old plans or the new ones, is a message or video count.

If you are buying Grok for the first time
- Pick Premium ($30) if you were about to choose between X Premium+ and SuperGrok. xAI says it includes the benefits of both, plus Cursor Pro, and recommends it “for new AI users”.
- Pick Plus ($8) if you mostly want the checkmark, fewer ads and light Grok use. - On SuperGrok ($30): Premium costs the same per month and, by xAI’s description, adds X Premium+ and Cursor Pro benefits.
- On X Premium+ ($40): Premium is $10 a month less and includes Premium+ benefits by xAI’s description. Note the ads wording above: “most surfaces” rather than “no ads anywhere”.
- Paying for both ($70 a month): you are the clearest case for switching. xAI’s billing settings link your X, Grok and Cursor accounts and recommend a plan.
- On an annual plan: “You keep every day you paid for.” Your term runs to its end date unless you choose to upgrade.
- Using Claude or GPT in Cursor: on a current Cursor plan, your included third-party usage continues until you switch. After switching, those models are billed at API list prices from the first use, so check how much of your coding runs on them first.
- On SuperGrok Heavy ($300): the pages we read don’t say which new tier replaces it. The top individual tier is Ultra at $200, so look at the offer in your billing settings before deciding.
Before you switch, know the rules from Cursor’s help page: “The switch is permanent. It can’t be undone.” Your selected old subscriptions are cancelled at checkout with “an automatic prorated refund for unused time”, and a new billing cycle starts that day. Subscriptions bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play work differently; a Cursor plan billed by Apple, for example, has to be cancelled in your iPhone or iPad settings. xAI is still rolling out the switch option, so it may not show in your billing settings yet. xAI also says switching “comes with limited-time offers, which you can see in your account billing settings”; we haven’t listed offer prices because xAI’s own pages don’t show them.
⚠️ The Safety Question You Should Weigh First
This affects every Grok plan here, old and new, because all of them include Grok Imagine, and it is a major reason to pause before subscribing to any of them.

The lawsuits: A proposed class action filed on August 18, 2026 alleges xAI “knowingly enabled users to generate child sexual abuse material (CSAM) depicting real children” with Grok Imagine (ClassAction.org). On September 28, a California federal judge refused to pause or move to Texas a proposed class action by women suing over Grok-generated sexual deepfakes (Law360).
The regulators and police: On June 11, Canada’s Privacy Commissioner found that X Corp. and xAI violated Canada’s federal private-sector privacy law. In January, California ordered xAI to stop sexualized outputs of minors, and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism reported in September that police in England and Wales often couldn’t identify suspects because “officers’ requests for information from X have not been met” (TBIJ).
⚠️ Our take: Text and research features are a separate question. But if image generation is your reason to pick either plan, you would be paying into the exact product at the center of these cases.
